Dear Clairemont Elementary Families,
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at Clairemont Elementary. I am thrilled to be a part of your school family and looking forward to meeting each of you and your children in these upcoming weeks. In many ways I feel like I am coming home; I started my teaching career in Decatur at Clairemont Elementary and then served Oakhurst Elementary as their Instructional Coach for four years. This past year, I was the Southeast School Designer for Expeditionary Learning, where I worked closely with Decaturís three K-3 schools, a K-5 school in Clayton County, and an elementary and middle school in Chattanooga. All of these experiences have prepared me for taking on this new step.
I have had the privilege of working with Clairemont staff and families directly and indirectly over the past ten years. Clairemont has grown into a fully implementing Expeditionary Learning school with a staff and family community that is committed to excellence and student success. This past year, I watched your teachers and students engage in meaningful and challenging expeditions, and I look forward to what the future holds.
Along with the other two K-3 schools, we have been chosen for the third year in a row to host a National Expeditionary Learning Site Visit. This is a huge accomplishment and one of which we all should be proud.
I am getting settled and prepared for a wonderful school year, and I look forward to supporting and leading our work. I am sure I will see many of you within the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime, enjoy the last part of your summer!
Sincerely,
Erin Wheeler
